Hyundai's "N" Division to Build Genesis G70 Sports Coupe

As details become more clear on Hyundai's new Genesis luxury line, we are finding out more about future vehicles beyond the flagship sedan, the G90.  According to Albert Biermann, former chief engineer at BMW's M division, and now head of Hyundai's new N performance division, the G70 will be a "whole new animal".  "This will be more on the sporty side already in the normal version, so you [can] expect [a] really nice-handling car. 

 

 

 

The G70 sport coupe will be powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, with an expectation at this point of a 400+ horsepower output, rivaling German counterparts.   Hyundai has been known for value and dependability in the past, and now seeks to add luxury and performance with the new Genesis line. 

 

A total of six new models are expected under the new Genesis badge by the year 2020.

Hyundai hires Lamborghini exec for new Genesis brand

As you may know, Hyundai is preparing to launch a new luxury brand, named Genesis.  The first offering for Genesis will be the G90, a flagship luxury sedan.  Hyundai has now announced the hiring of Mandred Fitzgerald, former director for brand and design at Lamborghini.  While no official title has been reported, Fitzgerald will be part of the Genesis brand team, joining Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer as part of a contingent of non-Korean executives, including Luc Donckerwolke of Bentley and Albert Biermann of BMW.

Is certainly seems as though Hyundai is putting serious executive muscle behind the new Genesis label.   It is expected that Hyundai will sell the Genesis-branded vehicles side-by-side at existing Hyundai stores, rather than building new, single-branded Genesis stores.  Genesis is planning 7 new vehicle releases before the end of the decade.
