Hyundai Is Planning an Extended Range Electric Vehicle for 2018

Hyundai will be introducing their new Ioniq vehicle later this year, which will be available with three different power trains- electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid- the first such vehicle to be made by any manufacturer.  Now, Hyundai has announced plans for another all-electric vehicle to enter the market for the 2018 market year.

Hyundai has proven their interest in alternative-fuel vehicles with the Sonata Plug-In Hybrid.  The Sonata PHEV boasts 59 miles per gallon combined, and 99 mpg in electric mode, and can cover 27 miles on electric power. The next steps are to dramatically increase the range on electric-only vehicles. 

The yet-to-be named car will have a range of over 200 miles on a single charge, and rumors have Hyundai shooting for a 250 mile range by 2020.  

There seems to be no stopping Hyundai in the race to build more fuel efficient- and lower-emission vehicles.  We will see the Ioniq later this year, and by the 2018 model year, we look forward to a 200-mile range all-electric.  All of this while Hyundai is still working on a zero-emission Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle, while many other manufacturers have given up.
